When are gifts to employees tax-free ?

Overview of the rules from the Norwegian Tax Administration for tax-exempt gifts in employment and board positions.

The Norwegian Tax Administration has its own rules for when gifts and gift cards can be tax-exempt in employment and board positions. As a general rule , non-cash gifts can be tax-exempt when:

the gift is given due to employment or board position
the total value of gifts during the year does not exceed NOK 5,000 per person

The rules can be complex and depend on, among other things, role, total value in the year and type of gift.

Note: Glede -gift cards cannot be withdrawn for cash or used for financial services, including money transfers and investments in funds, stocks or cryptocurrency.
