How to hold an inspiring kickoff for your company

It might be a good idea to gather the troops after the holidays and give some motivational words to get your employees ready to seize the fall.

In this article, we give you six ideas on how you can organize a memorable and motivational kickoff for the fall of 2023.

How to have an inspiring company kick-off meeting

Kick-off meetings are a great opportunity to strengthen cohesion throughout the organization, while also helping to engage employees around the goals for the fall. This can provide a good dose of motivation to perform at their best in the workplace.

Whether your workforce is at home, hybrid, or 100% physically present, all of these ideas for company kick-off meetings will unite your team for the (hopefully) amazing year ahead!

Hand out great kickoff effects

There's a reason why sports teams wear uniforms. Wearing matching clothes that represent your organization can create a sense of unity and community. Plus, it doesn't take much to create a good atmosphere and lots of laughter among employees.

Giving out matching effects with your company logo during the kickoff can be a great way to get attendees on board with the team spirit. Whether it’s apparel like fun t-shirts or accessories like mugs and notebooks that showcase your company identity, your team will have fun showing off your new giveaways.

Show employees that they are valued and important

One way to include employee appreciation in the kickoff is to host a mini awards ceremony where you surprise employees with public tributes and reward them for their achievements from the previous six months with a special appreciation gift.

This type of public recognition is especially memorable and meaningful for employees. It is also okay to give out awards of a humorous nature, as long as you are confident that the recipient of the award will be able to handle it!

Make employees part of the strategy and vision

Now it’s time to move on to one of the most important parts of the kickoff: building the vision for the fall. This is the time to communicate the company’s goals and organizational values for the future. As one of the most critical parts of the launch, it’s important to put in the extra effort to get everyone excited. Not just present the goals, but show why the goals matter and why their contributions are important.

Engage employees

It's important that your company kickoff doesn't just feel like management talking to the workforce. Get everyone involved by including activities in the kickoff agenda that get people up, moving, talking, and thinking.

There are so many different types of activities you can choose to include in your kickoff, depending on factors like the kickoff theme, the size of your workforce, how long the kickoff lasts, whether your workforce is in-office, hybrid, or home-based, and more. Think games, discussions, contests, riddles, puzzles, improvisation exercises: let your creativity flow!

Give a motivational speech

Having your CEO or other senior leaders speak at the kickoff is an obvious (and effective!) choice. These leaders can build excitement and vision in a unique way. However, they shouldn’t be the only people presenting at your company’s kickoff.

An effective way to keep the kickoff interesting is to invite other employees or external people to present something interesting to the company.

Collect feedback

In order to plan even better events in the future, it is important to get feedback on what employees think about the kickoff.

In addition to opening up for questions and feedback several times during the kickoff, we recommend sending out a survey after the kickoff so employees can provide anonymous feedback. This way, you can be sure that you are hearing your employees' honest opinions.

And of course, don’t leave these insights in a hidden folder in your file system. Make sure you really review the feedback – both now and later. And of course, you’ll also want to revisit this feedback when you start planning the next kickoff.
